Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes copying ideas, text, data, or figures from prior work and presenting them as original without proper citation. Authors must:

  • Properly acknowledge prior work, including their own published or unpublished materials.

  • Seek permission from copyright holders before reusing figures, tables, or substantial text.

  • Clearly indicate when text or data are reused from previous publications.

  • Ensure that the first publication of an idea, analysis, or dataset is cited appropriately, even if unpublished but under review elsewhere.

JCII uses Turnitin to detect similarity in all submitted manuscripts.

Procedures and Penalties

  • Suspected plagiarism is investigated by the Managing Editor with evidence including manuscript title, authors’ names, and supporting documents.

  • Authors are given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.

  • An ad hoc committee (comprising the Managing Editor and at least three editorial board members) evaluates the case and determines sanctions.

  • Sanctions may include rejection of the manuscript, retraction of published articles, and temporary or permanent bans from submission.

  • In severe cases, notifications may be sent to the authors’ institutions or funders.

  • All processes are conducted confidentially, and findings are communicated only to involved parties.

2. Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers

JCII adheres follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)'s Code of Conduct for Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers.. Reviewers are expected to:

  • Decline review assignments if they have a conflict of interest, lack expertise, or cannot meet the deadline.

  • Not use unpublished material from the manuscript for personal advantage or research.

  • Report any ethical concerns, including plagiarism, data fabrication, redundant publication, or significant similarity with other works.

  • Provide objective, constructive, and evidence-based evaluations to improve the scholarly quality of manuscripts.
