Peer Review Process
Journal of Contemporary Indonesian Islam (JCII) applies a double-blind peer review process, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review cycle. Every manuscript submitted will undergo the following stages:
-
Initial Screening
-
The Managing Editor and/or Associate Editor evaluates the manuscript’s originality (using Turnitin), relevance to JCII’s focus and scope, and compliance with submission guidelines.
-
Manuscripts that do not meet the minimum standard or fall outside the scope will be desk rejected with editorial feedback.
-
-
Assignment to Reviewers
-
Manuscripts passing the initial screening are sent to at least two qualified reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.
-
Reviewers are selected based on academic qualifications (preferably Ph.D. holders) and a strong publication record.
-
-
Review Process
-
Reviewers assess the manuscript for originality, scholarly contribution, methodological rigor, clarity, ethical standards, and relevance.
-
Reviewers must declare any conflict of interest before accepting the review assignment.
-
Each reviewer provides a detailed evaluation and recommendation within four (4) weeks.
-
-
Editorial Decision
-
Based on reviewers’ reports, the Editor-in-Chief decides whether the manuscript should be:
-
Accepted (with or without minor revisions),
-
Revised (major revision required), or
-
Rejected.
-
-
The decision is communicated to the corresponding author, along with anonymized reviewer comments.
-
-
Revision and Resubmission
-
Authors are required to submit a revised manuscript together with a Response to Reviewers document addressing each reviewer’s comments.
-
Revised manuscripts may be re-evaluated by the original reviewers before a final decision is made.
-
-
Final Decision
-
The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on acceptance after ensuring all revisions have been satisfactorily addressed.
-
Accepted manuscripts proceed to copyediting, proofreading, and publication.
