The Use of 'Modeling the Way' Strategy to Strengthen Grade III Students' Behavior and Participation in Learning About Respect for Parents

This study aims to improve the activities and abilities of third grade students of SD Negeri 056642 Kampung Baru in understanding and practicing morals towards parents through the application of the “Modeling the Way” strategy. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and evaluation. The results showed a significant increase in students' active participation during learning, their understanding of moral values, and a more positive attitude change in relationships with parents. This strategy encourages students to imitate the teacher's behavior as a model in daily life, so that moral values are more easily absorbed and applied. Although only a minority of students still need further guidance to improve their engagement, in general the “Modeling the Way” strategy proved effective in shaping students' character early on. This finding confirms the importance of the teacher's role as a role model in the process of learning morals, as well as the need to apply methods that are applicable and contextual in nature to achieve optimal learning outcomes. Thus, this strategy can be an option in improving the quality of character education at the elementary school level.
Abstrak
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan aktivitas dan kemampuan siswa kelas III SD Negeri 056642 Kampung Baru dalam memahami dan mempraktekkan akhlak terhadap orang tua melalui penerapan strategi “Modeling the Way”. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan evaluasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan pada partisipasi aktif siswa selama pembelajaran, pemahaman siswa terhadap nilai-nilai moral, dan perubahan sikap yang lebih positif dalam hubungan dengan orang tua. Strategi ini mendorong siswa untuk mencontoh perilaku guru sebagai model dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, sehingga nilai-nilai moral lebih mudah diserap dan diterapkan. Meskipun hanya sebagian kecil siswa yang masih membutuhkan bimbingan lebih mendalam untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan mereka, secara umum strategi “Modeling the Way” terbukti efektif dalam membentuk karakter siswa sejak dini. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya peran guru sebagai role model dalam proses pembelajaran akhlak, serta perlunya penerapan metode yang aplikatif dan kontekstual untuk mencapai hasil pembelajaran yang optimal. Dengan demikian, strategi ini dapat menjadi salah satu pilihan dalam meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan karakter di tingkat sekolah dasar.
