Manuscript Type
Manuscript Types
Journal of English Language Teaching, Linguistics, and Literature (JETLEE) accepts the following types of manuscripts. All submissions are subject to double-blind peer review. Authors should indicate the manuscript type during online submission.
1. Original Research Article
A full-length report of original empirical research in English language teaching, linguistics, or literature. Studies may use quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs, including experimental, survey, classroom-based, corpus, discourse-analytic, and ethnographic research. The manuscript should state a clear research problem, situate it in current literature, describe the methodology transparently enough to allow evaluation and replication, and discuss findings in relation to theory and practice. Original Research Articles generally follow the IMRaD structure (Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion).
Length: 6,000–8,000 words, excluding references and appendices.
2. Systematic Review
A critical synthesis of existing research on a defined topic. This category includes systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, and critical narrative reviews. Review Articles should go beyond summarizing the literature: they should identify patterns, tensions, and gaps, and propose directions for future research or practice. Systematic and scoping reviews must report search strategies, databases, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and screening procedures (for example, following PRISMA or PRISMA-ScR).
Length: 4,000–6,000 words, excluding references.
3. Conceptual Paper
A non-empirical article that develops, critiques, or reframes a theory, concept, or pedagogical approach, or takes a reasoned position on a current issue in the field, such as language policy, AI in language education, or curriculum reform. The argument must be grounded in relevant literature and show clear implications for research or practice.
Length: 5,000–7,000 words, excluding references.
4. Book Review
A critical evaluation of a recently published scholarly book (normally within the past three years) relevant to the journal’s scope. The review should summarize the book’s aims and content, assess its strengths and limitations, and comment on its value for researchers, teachers, or students. Book Reviews are reviewed by the editors and are not subject to external peer review.
Length: 1,500–2,500 words.
Manuscripts that do not fit any of these categories may be returned without review. Authors who are unsure which category applies are encouraged to contact the editorial office before submission.
