Authorship Criteria

Saree: Research in Gender Studies applies strict standards for determining authorship. Authorship is attributed on the basis of substantial contributions to the research and to the preparation of the manuscript. Every person listed as an author must meet all four of the following criteria:

1. Made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data or texts.
2. Drafted the manuscript or revised it critically for important intellectual content.
3. Approved the final version to be published.
4. Agreed to be accountable for all aspects of the work and to ensure that questions about its accuracy or integrity are properly investigated and resolved.

Contributors who do not meet all four criteria, such as those who only obtained funding, collected data, provided supervision, or edited language, should be thanked in the Acknowledgements rather than listed as authors. Guest, gift, and ghost authorship are not permitted. AI tools cannot be listed as authors (see the AI Policy).

The corresponding author is responsible for confirming that all authors meet these criteria and have approved the submission. A brief author contribution statement is required for every multi-authored manuscript. Any change to the author list after submission (addition, removal, or reordering) must be requested in writing by the corresponding author, with the signed agreement of all authors, and is subject to the editor’s approval.
