Publication Ethics
Pase: Journal of Contemporary Islamic Education is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and academic integrity. The journal ensures that all stages of the publication process are conducted transparently, fairly, and responsibly. This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher to maintain the quality, credibility, and integrity of scholarly publications.
1. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts represent original scholarly work and have not been published previously or submitted simultaneously to another journal. All sources, ideas, data, and previously published works used in the manuscript must be appropriately acknowledged and cited. Authors are required to comply with the journal's plagiarism policy and ensure that their manuscripts meet accepted standards of academic integrity.
All individuals who have made substantial contributions to the research and manuscript preparation should be appropriately acknowledged as authors. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all listed authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission. Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest, relevant sources of research funding, and any ethical approvals required for research involving human participants or other regulated research activities.
Authors must also promptly notify the editorial team if they discover significant errors or inaccuracies in their published work and cooperate in issuing corrections or other appropriate actions.
2. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors are responsible for evaluating submitted manuscripts objectively and making editorial decisions based on their scholarly quality, originality, relevance to the journal's focus and scope, and compliance with publication ethics. Editorial decisions must not be influenced by the authors' race, gender, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, or personal beliefs.
Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and related information. Manuscripts must not be used for personal research or other purposes without the authors' explicit permission. Editors must also manage potential conflicts of interest and ensure that manuscripts are assigned to qualified reviewers through a fair and appropriate peer-review process.
When allegations of plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, or other forms of publication misconduct arise, editors must investigate them fairly and take appropriate action in accordance with the journal's policies.
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must evaluate manuscripts objectively, constructively, and confidentially. Their assessments should focus on the scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and clarity of the manuscript. Reviewers must provide clear and evidence-based comments to assist the editors in making informed decisions and to help authors improve their work.
Reviewers must not use unpublished information obtained through the review process for personal advantage or disclose manuscript contents to unauthorized parties. They must inform the editor if they identify substantial similarities with other published works, suspect research or publication misconduct, or have a conflict of interest that could affect the impartiality of their review. Reviewers who are unable to complete a review within the required timeframe should notify the editor promptly.
4. Peer Review and Editorial Independence
Pase: Journal of Contemporary Islamic Education applies a peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic relevance of submitted manuscripts. Editorial decisions are made independently and are based on the results of peer review, the scholarly merit of the manuscript, and the journal's editorial policies.
The journal seeks to ensure that reviewers possess relevant expertise and that the review process is conducted fairly, confidentially, and without inappropriate influence. Further details regarding the review procedure are provided in the journal's Peer Review Process policy.
5. Plagiarism and Research Misconduct
The journal does not tolerate plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of academic misconduct. All submitted manuscripts are screened using Turnitin, with a maximum acceptable similarity index of 25%, in accordance with the journal's Plagiarism Policy.
The similarity index is treated as an initial screening indicator rather than conclusive evidence of plagiarism. The editorial team evaluates the similarity report and the context of the identified overlap before determining the appropriate action. Depending on the seriousness of the misconduct, the journal may request revisions, reject the manuscript, publish a correction, or retract a published article.
6. Conflicts of Interest
Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could improperly influence their judgment or the publication process. The journal will take appropriate measures to manage disclosed conflicts of interest and protect the fairness and credibility of editorial decisions.
7. Corrections, Retractions, and Complaints
The journal is committed to correcting the scholarly record when significant errors or ethical violations are identified. Depending on the circumstances, appropriate actions may include issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions. Allegations of misconduct and complaints concerning editorial decisions or publication practices will be assessed fairly, confidentially, and in accordance with the relevant journal policies.
Authors may be asked to cooperate in investigations and provide supporting information when necessary. Decisions concerning corrections or retractions will be based on the available evidence and the seriousness of the issue.
8. Responsibilities of the Publisher
The publisher supports the editors in maintaining editorial independence, publication transparency, and ethical publishing practices. The publisher must not interfere with editorial decisions on the basis of commercial, institutional, or personal interests. The publisher and editorial team share responsibility for addressing suspected publication misconduct and maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
9. Use of Artificial Intelligence
Authors who use artificial intelligence (AI) tools in preparing a manuscript must ensure that the submitted work remains accurate, original, and academically responsible. AI tools must not be listed as authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the content, research integrity, or final publication.
Where AI tools have been used in ways that materially contribute to the development of the manuscript, authors should disclose such use in accordance with the journal's instructions. Authors remain fully responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content, checking references, protecting confidential information, and ensuring that the manuscript does not contain fabricated data, misleading statements, or unattributed material.
Editors and reviewers must also protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not upload confidential manuscript content to AI tools or other external services where confidentiality cannot be assured.
10. Commitment to Ethical Publishing
By submitting a manuscript to Pase: Journal of Contemporary Islamic Education, authors agree to comply with this Publication Ethics policy and all other applicable journal policies. The journal reserves the right to take appropriate action when violations are identified, with due consideration for fairness, transparency, and the principles of responsible scholarly publishing.
