Retraction and Correction Policy
Pase: Journal of Contemporary Islamic Education is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal recognizes the importance of correcting published articles when errors or ethical concerns are identified. This policy establishes procedures for issuing corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions in accordance with responsible scholarly publishing practices.
1. Corrections
A correction may be issued when an error is identified in a published article and the error can be rectified without invalidating the overall findings, conclusions, or scholarly contribution of the work. Such errors may include inaccuracies in author names, affiliations, references, data presentation, figures, tables, or other parts of the article.
Requests for corrections may be submitted by authors, editors, reviewers, or readers. All requests will be evaluated by the editorial team to determine the nature and significance of the error and the appropriate corrective action.
When a correction is approved, the journal will publish a formal correction notice describing the error and the changes made. The correction notice will be linked to the original article to ensure transparency and maintain an accurate scholarly record.
2. Retractions
A retraction may be issued when a published article is found to contain serious errors or violations that undermine the reliability, validity, or ethical integrity of the work. Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to:
-
Plagiarism or substantial unattributed use of another person's work.
-
Fabrication or falsification of research data, results, or other research materials.
-
Duplicate publication or substantial overlap with previously published work without appropriate justification or disclosure.
-
Serious methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the principal findings or conclusions.
-
Research conducted without required ethical approval or other necessary authorization, where applicable.
-
Undisclosed conflicts of interest or other forms of misconduct that significantly compromise the integrity of the publication.
-
Manipulation of the peer-review or publication process.
-
Other violations of publication ethics that seriously undermine confidence in the article.
A retraction may be initiated by the authors, the editor-in-chief, the editorial team, the publisher, or other parties who provide credible evidence of a potential violation. The journal will assess the available evidence and, where appropriate, give the authors an opportunity to respond before making a decision.
A retraction is intended to correct the scholarly record, not to punish authors. The decision will be based on the seriousness of the issue, the available evidence, and the extent to which the article's reliability or ethical integrity has been compromised.
3. Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may be issued when credible allegations about a published article require further investigation, but the available evidence is insufficient to justify an immediate correction or retraction. This measure may also be used when an investigation is ongoing or cannot be completed within a reasonable period.
The expression of concern will identify the article in question and explain the general nature of the concern without making unsupported allegations. The journal will review the notice when additional evidence becomes available and determine whether further action, including a correction or retraction, is necessary.
4. Retraction Procedure
When a potential ground for retraction is identified, the journal will follow these procedures:
-
Initial assessment: The editorial team evaluates the allegation, supporting evidence, and potential impact on the reliability or ethical integrity of the article.
-
Communication with the authors: The corresponding author and, where appropriate, other relevant authors are contacted and given an opportunity to provide an explanation or supporting documentation.
-
Investigation: The journal reviews the available evidence and may consult independent experts or relevant institutions when necessary.
-
Editorial decision: The editor-in-chief, in consultation with the editorial team where appropriate, determines whether a correction, expression of concern, or retraction is warranted.
-
Publication of notice: If a retraction is approved, the journal publishes a clear and accessible retraction notice explaining the reason for the decision.
-
Record preservation: The original article remains accessible where technically and legally appropriate, clearly marked as retracted, while the retraction notice is linked to the article and its metadata is updated where possible.
The journal will handle all cases fairly, confidentially, and impartially, while protecting the rights of the parties involved and maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record.
5. Retraction Notice and Article Identification
A retraction notice will clearly identify the retracted article, including its title, authors, publication details, and DOI where available. The notice will state the reason for retraction and identify the party initiating the retraction when appropriate and permissible.
The retraction notice will be published separately from the original article and linked electronically to it. The original article will not be silently removed or altered in a manner that conceals the retraction, except where removal is required by law or necessary to address serious legal or safety concerns.
6. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of their published work. If authors discover a significant error or become aware of a potential ethical violation in their article, they should promptly notify the editorial team and cooperate with any subsequent investigation.
Authors may request a correction or retraction and should provide a clear explanation and supporting evidence. Disagreement among authors regarding a proposed correction or retraction will be considered by the editorial team, which will make its decision based on the evidence and the journal's publication ethics policies.
7. Appeals and Complaints
Authors may submit a reasoned appeal against a correction or retraction decision by providing relevant evidence or an explanation of the grounds for reconsideration. Appeals will be reviewed impartially by the editor-in-chief or an appropriate editorial representative who is not directly involved in the matter, where feasible.
Complaints regarding the handling of corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions will be assessed in accordance with the journal's complaints and appeals procedures. The journal will communicate its decision to the relevant parties and maintain appropriate records of the process.
8. Transparency and Publication Ethics
Pase: Journal of Contemporary Islamic Education is committed to handling corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions transparently and consistently. All decisions will be made in accordance with the principles of academic integrity, fairness, accountability, and responsible scholarly publishing.
By publishing this policy, the journal seeks to ensure that errors and ethical violations are addressed appropriately and that readers can rely on the accuracy and credibility of the scholarly record.
